EDITORIAL.ID – The Indonesian political and industrial sectors are in mourning. Member of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) and prominent national businessman, Rachmat Gobel, passed away on Friday (July 10, 2026) at 03:20 WIB at Brawijaya Hospital Tebet, Jakarta.
The deceased, born in Gorontalo on September 3, 1962, was known as a figure of high dedication, both in the business world through the Gobel Group and in the national political arena. During his lifetime, he served as the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia (2014–2015) and held the position of Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI for the 2019–2024 period.
The family, through an official statement, revealed that Rachmat Gobel passed away without having experienced any prior serious health complaints. The news of his sudden passing has shocked many, from fellow parliament members to national figures.
A military funeral ceremony for the deceased was held at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery (TMP Kalibata), South Jakarta, on Friday (July 10, 2026) afternoon. The ceremony was attended by family, relatives, and a number of prominent figures who gathered to pay their final respects to one of the nation’s best sons.
The family has requested prayers from the public that the deceased may be forgiven for all his sins and shortcomings, and that he may find the best place in the presence of God Almighty. (FikA)
